-5y+3y=10-8
-2y=2
-2y/-2=2/-2
y=-1

I grouped the alike variable to one side, and the number to the other side, added and subtracted it, divided both sides by -2, and got -1
-5y+3y=10-8
-2y=2 (divide by -2 both sides)
Y=-1
